Ingredients:

6 c peeled, sliced apples

1 c water, divided

3 tbsp butter

1/2 - 3/4 c packed brown sugar (use 3/4 cup if using tart apples)

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/8 tsp salt

3 tbsp corn starch

1/2 - 3/4 c coarsely chopped walnuts

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350-degree F. Put sliced apples into a 2 - 2 1/2 quart casserole dish.

2. Mix 3/4 cup water, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon and salt in a saucepan and heat (medium heat) until butter melts.

3. Mix cornstarch with 1/4 cup water and stir until smooth. Stir this gradually into the sugar mixture and bring to a boil.

4. Remove from heat and pour over the apples.

5. Stir in walnuts, cover and bake until apples are soft, about 45 minutes. Time may vary, depending on variety of apples used.

6. Serve warm, room temperature or cold. Delicious topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Serves: 8
