1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
2–3 tsp. almond extract
2 1/2 cup flour
assorted bottles red, yellow, blue, and green food coloring
1 pair food-safe gloves
1. Place the butter in a mixing bowl and let it come to room temperature.
2. Add the sugar and cream the two ingredients together.
3. Beat in almond extract.
4. Stir in the flour 1/4 cup at a time. Mix the dough thoroughly each time.
5. Divide the dough into separate balls for each color you plan to use.
6. Add a few drops of food coloring to each dough ball and knead until color is uniformly blended. (Wear food-safe gloves if you don't wish to dye your hands, too.)
7. Use approximately 1 1/2 tsp. dough to sculpt and model each piece of fruit.
8. Place fruit marzipan cookies about 1-inch apart on ungreased baking sheet.
9. Bake marzipan fruit cookies for around 30 minutes at 300º. (Bake for a shorter time if cookies are smaller.)
10. Let cookies cool on wire racks.
