1 lb. ground beef
1/2 onion, chopped
salt and pepper to taste
1 t. chili powder
15-1/2 oz. can chili beans
8-oz. can tomato sauce
1/2 c. water
8-1/2 oz. pkg. cornbread mix
1/3 c. milk
1 egg, beaten
1. Brown beef with onion in an oven-proof skillet over medium heat. Drain; add salt and pepper to taste. Stir in chili powder, beans, tomato sauce and water.
2. Simmer for 5 minutes; remove from heat. In a separate bowl, stir together cornbread mix, milk and egg; spoon over beef mixture and place skillet in oven.
3. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 25 minutes, or until cornbread topping is golden and cooked through. Serves 4 to 6.
